Derek Roberts, a best-selling author of color, writing under a pseudonym, is rebuffed by his white neighbor, Amelia Knight, when he invites her for coffee. Her reason is that she does not date black men. He decides to have some fun with her by playing up to all her stereotypes. He is having fun at her expense until he realizes he is falling for her. At the same time, she is faling for him. After he reveals his true identity they embark on a romantic journey that brings them experiences they never had.
