This critical edition of Victor Hugo’s theatrical masterpiece Hernani presents for the first time, the text as the author wanted it to appear. The vast majority of the existing versions of the play are based on editions that were flawed because they did not take into account all of the corrections made by the author. Through the use of different fonts, the reader sees which lines were censored in the first edition and all textual differences between that edition and the one published in 1836.
